Loungewear
I was scheduled to have surgery on my wrist two weeks ago, but it was rescheduled at the last minute. It was a minor surgery and very common, but I was super nervous. My hands are literally my livelihood and a two week delay was just two more weeks to be stressed.
I decided to turn all of my nervous energy into making something useful, a loungewear set for my convalescence. I chose the Seamwork Mel for the bottoms. I graded from a 10 at the waist to a 12 at the hips. I also added a half inch to the point of the seat seam for a full inner thigh adjustment. I really like how comfortable these are, and as I sit here on the couch pecking this out with one hand I am pleased with my choice to make them. I think if I were to make them again I would make one change. I would slim down the pants. I needed the width at my hips but the 12 is a bit large on my lower legs.
The top is a Sew House Seven Toaster #2. I needed a sweatshirt that was loose and easy to get into, and most importantly no cuffs. The Toaster #2 pattern is classic with a grown on facing for the mock turtleneck and side vents. I made a medium with only one alteration. The grown on facing in the original pattern stops before the shoulder seam and when I made a version before I found that the corners of the facing curled and were a little lumpy when wearing it. This time I extended the facing so it is caught in the shoulders and fixed the issue.
The fabric for the set is from Jo-Ann’s, a very plush 100% cotton French terry in opposite color ways. I enjoyed making these patterns, and promise you will love wearing them. Wonderfully comfy and perfect for my week of recuperation.
