Seamwork Marett
I missed a week or two of writing posts, but never fear I have been working diligently away on projects. This past week I finished up my seamwork spring challenge, for which I made the Issue 52 Marett palazzo pants. I have been seeing 1970’s influence in a lot of runway shows this spring, and the way palazzo pants make your legs look longer is definitely of interest to me and my short gams. I thought that this was also the perfect opportunity for me to indulge my love of window pane checks. It is such a simple, classic pattern that can look very funky depending on the colors and how it is used.
A mood board of some of my inspiration for these makes
I made a quick toile, and I think after several pairs of pants and shorts I finally have a good idea of my sizing, because I didn’t need to make any adjustments. I love the simple construction of these pants and they are a breeze to sew up. I had to go back and adjust the waistband in once I made the pants in my final fabric due to how much stretch was in the material, but that was my only hiccup. I wore the pants all day after I finished up and they are delightfully swishy to walk in and as comfortable to lounge in as pajamas.
As with all seamwork patterns, the instructions are well laid out and simple. Since these are a fairly simple fit, being wide leg, I think these would be a great pattern for someone who is ready to make a first pair of pants beyond a simple pajama or sweatpants pattern.
